Telegram, the popular messaging platform, has recently introduced a new feature that has garnered significant attention and excitement among its user base.

This new feature allows users to purchase advertisements within the platform using Toncoin, a cryptocurrency native to Telegram's blockchain network known as TON.

The introduction of this update is part of Telegram's latest effort to monetize its user base and provide a revenue-sharing model for its users. With 50% of the ad revenue generated from public Telegram channels being distributed to channel owners, this new feature presents an opportunity for content creators to generate income from their channels.

According to Telegram, users now have the ability to promote their channels by paying a small amount of Toncoins. They have full control over selecting the channels where they want to place their TON-powered advertisements, allowing for targeted and effective promotion.

Furthermore, Telegram has announced that channel owners will be able to withdraw their rewards without any fees. This withdrawal service will soon be made available on Telegram's Fragment exchange, providing a seamless process for channel owners to access their earnings.

Telegram's choice to utilize the TON Blockchain for this feature is based on several factors. The TON Blockchain boasts low fees, high transaction speeds, and an impressive capacity to process a large number of transactions per second. In a test conducted last November, TON reportedly handled an astounding 100,000 transactions per second, highlighting its scalability and efficiency.

The CEO of Telegram, Pavel Durov, had hinted at this update on his personal channel prior to its official announcement.

Durov Telegram Announcement

Durov revealed that despite the massive viewership of Telegram channels, with over 1 trillion monthly views, only 10% of them have been monetized through advertisements thus far. This new feature aims to bridge the gap and provide content creators with a means to monetize their channels more effectively.

Durov believes that this introduction of Toncoin-powered ads will create a positive cycle within the Telegram ecosystem. Content creators will have the option to either cash out their Toncoins or reinvest them in promoting and improving their channels, fostering growth and innovation within the platform.

It is worth noting that at the time of publication, the price of Toncoin had experienced a 2.32% increase in the last 24 hours, reaching a value of $5.24. This upward trend in Toncoin's value reflects the growing interest and confidence in Telegram's blockchain network and its potential for facilitating secure and efficient transactions.
