Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN) is
set to make history by joining the S&P 500 index on May 19, 2025, replacing
Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS), which is being acquired by Capital One
Financial Corp.
Coinbase will be the first and
currently only cryptocurrency-focused company to be included in the S&P 500.
Inclusion in the S&P 500 is
important for a company, as it leads to increase demand from institutional
investors and index funds that track the benchmark.
Coinbase's addition to the index
reflects its substantial market capitalization of $52.78 billion and it is the
leader in the U.S.-based crypto exchange.
