Starknet Foundation announced on Feb
14, 2024 that it will be airdropping 700 million STRK tokens (7% of total
supply) to nearly 1.3 million (1.297 million) eligible wallets on Feb 20,2024 through
the first round of the Starknet Provision Program. This is the first
distribution of STRK tokens.
Eligible wallets include:
1. Early users of Starknet’s dapps.
2. Community members including code
contributors, event organizers, community managers, and marketers.
3. Starknet developers.
4. Ethereum developers. Without Ethereum
developers there will be no layer 2 solutions. Ethereum developers and
community can claim STRK tokens.
STRK tokens will be available for
claiming starting at 12 PM (UTC) on Feb 20, 2024. You can check eligibility at provisions.starknet.io.
Eligible users can claim the tokens for
a period of 4 months after the launch of the program.
What is Starknet?
Starknet is a permissionless L2
Validity Rollup that scale Ethereum with a technology called STARKs.
Starknet relies on Ethereum’s security
for settlement and data availability layers.
It uses Cairo as a programming
language. Starknet said Cairo is developer friendly.
STRK is the native token of Starknet. It
has a total supply of 10 billion tokens.
Starknet has 55.62 million TVL as of
Feb 15, 2024. Ekubo is Starknet’s decentralized exchange and zkLend is a
lending and borrowing platform.
STRK token utility
1. Paying network fees
Users pay transaction fees using STRK.
Fees on Starknet currently are being paid in ETH.
After the provision program users can
choose to pay in ETH or STRK. However, Starknet protocol use ETH to pay fees on
Ethereum.
2.Staking
STRK tokens can be staked within
Starknet proof-of-stake to secure and decentralized the network.
3. Participation in governance voting.
STRK token holders can participate in
governance voting through Starknet Governance Hub.
Recipient can claim the tokens through
the Provision portal at provisions.starknet.io starting 12 PM (UTC) on Feb 20, 2024 until June 20,
2024.
