Kaspa is a layer 1 and a smart contract cryptocurrency. It was founded by Yonatan Sompolinsky. Kaspa’s smart contracts and dApps use Rust as a programming language.

Is Kaspa ($KAS) the New Bitcoin? A Comprehensive Introduction to the First BlockDAG Network

Kaspa is a distributed ledger but it is not work like a linear blockchain. Kaspa uses blockDAG (Block Directed Acylic Graph) as a mechanism for the network’s transaction structure.  blockDAG enables Kaspa to produce 100 blocks every second.

IOTA is one of the first DAG and it is another cryptocurrency that uses DAG.

Kaspa uses proof-of-work consensus mechanism like Bitcoin.

For mining. Kaspa can be mined with GPU (for dual mining, memory should be no less than 6 GB). Kaspa can be mined with ASICs. However, Kaspa cannot be efficiently mined with CPU cards.

KAS is the native coin of Kaspa’s network. Kaspa has max supply of 28,700,000,000 KAS. 75.85% of KAS is already in circulation.

Kaspa wants to be fast, decentralized and scalable blockchain.

blockDAG creates multiple blocks every single second.  This means transactions get entered into the network and ready for confirmation almost instantly.

Kaspa can process large number of transactions. It does not disclose the exact number yet. But it is estimate that Kaspa can process 6,400 – 20,000 TPS. Kaspa has 1 second block time and Kaspa’s time to finality is less than 10 seconds.

The Kaspa network launched on November 7, 2021. KAS coin launched to the market on July 2022. Between July 24, 2022 and December 3, 2023 KAS price increased from $0.0002388 to $0.138, or 57,688 percent increase.
