LayerZero Labs seems to be distancing itself from excessive airdrop farming and sybil activity. The developer expressed their belief that it is in the best interest of the protocol to distribute tokens to genuine users rather than sybil farmers.
They further announced that all sybil users have the opportunity to self-report within the next 14 days and receive 15% of their intended allocation without any questions asked.
LayerZero Labs, the developer of a cross-chain communication protocol, recently completed the first snapshot related to a potential airdrop distribution to community members.
This snapshot, which determines eligibility for the airdrop, was finalized on May 1, 2024, at 11:59:59 p.m. UTC, as in a graphic shared on X (Twitter).
Airdrops generally serve as a strategy to reward early users and establish decentralized governance power within a network.
However, excessive airdrop farming or sybil activity involves individuals using multiple addresses to acquire tokens solely for the purpose of selling them immediately.
It remains to be seen whether LayerZero Labs' attempt to appeal to sybil users' sense of fairness will yield positive results.
The developer has set a self-reporting deadline of May 17, as mentioned in a blog post.
In the same blog post, the developer made a bold statement, proclaiming that if someone believes they are a sybil, they most likely are one.
While specific rewards for network use have not been disclosed, LayerZero Labs has previously announced plans for a token launch in the first half of 2024.
