Google Cloud recently introduced a Web3 platform that provides an array of resources for developers in the blockchain industry.
These resources encompass datasets, tutorials on creating nonfungible tokens (NFTs), and other educational materials.
However, the response from the cryptocurrency community has been mixed.
Certain experts in the field have expressed their disappointment with the platform's lack of support for native Bitcoin and lightning.
Phil Geiger, the vice president of product marketing at Unchained, emphasized this oversight in a post on X.
Similarly, a pseudonymous crypto trader known as MartyParty criticized Google for lagging behind in the industry.
On the contrary, there were individuals who welcomed the launch of the Web3 platform.
Ivaibi Festo, the founder of Mitroplus labs, described it as an exhaustive resource in a post on X.
The platform offers a variety of products and enables developers to access testnet tokens for deploying and testing decentralized applications on Ethereum testnets Sepolia and Holesky.
Additionally, it provides a learning program that includes tutorials on NFT development, implementation of Web3 loyalty programs, and security of digital assets through multi-party computation.
This announcement follows Google's recent endeavors in the Web3 industry.
For instance, Google expanded its features to allow users to search wallet balances across multiple blockchains, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom.
Moreover, Google updated its policies at the beginning of 2024 to permit the advertisement of certain crypto products, such as Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, on major search engines.
In 2023, Google concentrated on establishing partnerships in preparation for the launch of the Web3 platform.
One of these partnerships involved integrating Google Cloud's BigQuery data warehouse with MultiversX.
This integration empowers Web3 projects and users to extract valuable insights from data analytics and artificial intelligence tools within the Google Cloud ecosystem.
Furthermore, in September 2023, Google's BigQuery added 11 blockchain networks, including Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum's Görli testnet, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon's mainnet, Polygon's Mumbai testnet, and Tron, to its data warehouse.
