WazirX hacker transferred 5,000 ETH to launder via Tornado Cash

The hacker responsible for the WazirX breach, which resulted in the theft of over $230 million in crypto assets, continues to launder stolen Ethereum (ETH) through the crypto mixer Tornado Cash.

 

PeckShieldAlert on X: "#PeckShieldAlert #WazirX Exploiter -labeled address has transferred 5K $ETH (worth ~$12M) to a new address 0x2D29...a968 On July 18, India's #CEX WazirX suffered a major security breach, resulting in the theft of over $230 million in cryptos. 

According to blockchain security firm PeckShield, on Septemer 5, 2024, the hacker transferred 5,000 ETH (approximately $12 million) to a new wallet, with around 1,600 ETH (worth $3.86 million) being laundered through Tornado Cash.

 

In July, the hacker stole $52.5 million worth of Ethereum, $102 million worth of Shiba Inu (SHIB), $11.24 million worth of Polygon (MATIC), $7.6 million worth of Pepe (PEPE), $3.5 million worth of Gala (GALA) and $5.79 million in Tether (USDT) from Indian exchange, WazirX.
