Solana has unleashed a powerful upgrade on its mainnet beta to address the persistent congestion problems plaguing the network. The recent congestion woes on the Solana network resulted in a drop in prices and sentiment for Solana ecosystem tokens, with a staggering 75% of transactions experiencing delays or failures.
In a post on April 15, Solana Status announced the release of v1.17.31 for the Solana network's mainnet update.
Validators on the Mainnet Beta are required to implement this release in order to mitigate future congestion issues on the Solana network.
This release is highly stable and suitable for use on the Mainnet Beta.
It introduces several enhancements that will effectively alleviate the ongoing congestion problems on the Solana Network.
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, commented, "Developing a major release takes approximately 30 patch releases," emphasizing the significance of this latest update.
Key changes in this update include:
- Displaying staked versus non-staked packets sent down/throttled.
- Utilizing smallvec to aggregate chunks in the QUIC protocol, resulting in saving 1 allocation per packet.
- Implementing the BankingStage Forwarding Filter.
- Strengthening the minimal streams per 100ms for staked nodes.
- Treating super low staked nodes as unstaked in streamer QOS.
- Setting the default staked client in the LocalCluster.
Additionally, Anza, a Solana-focused devshop, has also deployed the v1.18.11 release to the devnet.
This update aims to resolve the recurring congestion issues on the Solana chain.
Anza has identified that the primary cause of network congestion stems from a QUIC implementation and the behavior of the Agave validator client.
Following the latest mainnet update, Solana plans to roll out the v1.18 release to further enhance the network's capabilities in addressing congestion issues.
