Vitalik Butarin, the founder of
Ethereum wrote an article called “How will Ethereum’s multi-client philosophy
interact with ZK-EVMs”. He wants to make transactions in Ethereum get cheaper and
faster without sacrifice for security. 
“One
underdiscussed, but nevertheless very important, major upcoming transition in
the way the Ethereum chain gets validated is the rise of ZK-EVMs. SNARKs proving EVM execution have been under development for years
already, and the technology is actively being used by layer 2 protocols called ZK rollups. Some of these ZK rollups are active on mainnet today, with more coming soon. But in the longer term, ZK-EVMs are not just
going to be for rollups; we want to use them to verify execution on layer 1 as
well.”
Vitalik’s support of layer 2 means layer 2 will integrate seamlessly with Ethereum blockchain in the future. Currently Ethereum is the winner and the leader in smart contract platform. It captures the most value in cryptoeconomy. For Layer 2 Ethereum scaling solution Polygon ranks number 1. Arbitrum and Optimism follow as number 2 and number 3.
Prior to

would a rollup-centric Ethereum roadmap
look like?, he explained how he want to support zkRollup and Optimistic
Rollup technologies. We have to wait and see how Ethereum would implement ZK-EVM on
layer 1 in the future.
