Scroll is now live a testnet version of Zk-EVM Ethereum Layer 2 on Goerli testnet, moving from pre-alpha range to alpha testing range.
"We've done a test using a mainnet transaction simulator on our pre-alpha testnet, but with more public testnet, you'll have more time to test it and make sure everything is working properly." Researcher Pseudotheos at Scroll said in an interview.
Scroll has worked on network for nearly two years and now there are 60 members in the team, included a lot of sponsors to support widely.
Zk-EVM is a Layer 2 network built on Ethereum that uses zero-knowledge proofs to achieve scalability, while EVM refers to Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which is a bit that runs applications instead of just processing them.

"We want to build the strongest and safest zk-EVM, that's our top priority," Pseudotheos said.
Scroll has an on-premises security team that tries to ensure that the network is secure. It also freezes some codebase and sends it to audit for verification.
Polygon network is working with Zk-EVM this type, however, StarkWare is taking the opposite approach, zkSync is in the middle between the two, which Pseudotheos doesn't think being the first in the market will make much difference. They pointed to Arbitrum and Optimism, which launched a few months apart.
"It doesn't matter who was first," they said. "We think there is room for coexistence, especially when using different approaches."
