GitHub Has 100 Million Developer Accounts, Growing 4 Times Since Microsoft Acquisition

github.blog reveals that there are 100 million developer accounts. This is faster than the goal which aim to reach 100 million accounts by 2025. Github’s massive developer base was a big reason why Microsoft acquired the company in 2018. At that time it has 28 million developer accounts. The platform has grown 4 times in the past 4 years.

There were 20.5 million new developer accounts in 2022. With the growth coming from countries outside the US including India with 10 million developers. Brazil with 3 million. GitHub estimates if Indian developer accounts continue to grow at this rate. Indian developers will overtake the US by 2025.
