On January 12, 2023 is the first day that number of Ethereum
validators has reach 500,000. Validators approve blockchain transactions
through proof-of-stake mechanism. In order to be an Ethereum validator, they
are required to stake at least 32 ETH.
Since the Merge upgrade that happened on September 15, 2022,
shifting Ethereum from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. Between September 15,
2022 and January 18, 2023, the number of validators increased by 73,780
validators. In the past 2 years, there were 400,000 validators added to the
Ethereum network (between early 2021 and early 2023). Ethereum has about 1
million daily transactions.
Ethereum proof-of-stake is making liquid staking industry
grows. Lido and Rocket Pool provide liquid staking service to people who want
to be validators without the need to operate equipment. Binance, Coinbase, and
Kraken are also offer liquid staking service.
