According to an analytics firm, UBS. It estimates that ChatGPT, OpenAI’s chatbot service has 100 million active users (MAUs) in January 2023. ChatGPT has been launched since November 30, 2022. UBS revealed that in the first month of service, the number of MAUs was approximately 57 million. On the first day of launch, there were 13 million users. ChatGPT grows faster than TikTok and Instagram. It took 2 month to reach 100 million users, whereas TikTok took 9 months and Instagram took 2 and a half year.

Sam Altman is the CEO and co-founder of OpenAI. He learned to write programming code when he was 8 years old. He attended Stanford University, major in Computer Science. He went to Stanford just two years and dropped out to start his own startup company called Loopt. The company he founded was sold for $43.4 million, made him a millionaire. He was former president of Y-Combinator, a startup accelerator school. Later he found OpenAI. The company received funding from many well-known tech executives such as Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and Reid Hoffman. OpenAI needed to attract AI talents from big corporations and funds to develop and train AI, so Microsoft gave OpenAI $1 billion investment.
Since inception OpenAI has launched many products. It released a robot hand that can solve Rubic’s Cube. OpenAI’s bot won OG, 2 times World Champion of Dota2. OG had 2 world’s best players at that time, Ana Pham and Topson. ChatGPT is the lastest products by OpenAI. After ChatGPT was released, Microsoft invested another $10 billion in OpenAI.
