Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder and CEO of Solana, announced on May 9, 2025 that the release of Solana's Agave v2.2 upgrade, delivers a 20% increase in network performance.

This enhancement raises the per-block compute limit from 50 million to 60 million compute units (CUs), allowing the network to process more transactions per block and improve overall throughput.

Yakovenko highlighted the importance of this upgrade by comparing it to Ethereum's recent Pectra upgrade.

He stated that Solana's 20% compute increase is equivalent to "five Pectra's worth of capacity" added to the network.

In addition to the performance boost, Agave v2.2 introduces several developer-focused enhancements:

Account Lattice Hash (ALH): Replaces Merkle trees with a new method that tracks only changes to account states, reducing network load and improving scalability.

SBPF Versioning: Allows programs to specify which version of the Solana Berkeley Packet Filter they use, facilitating smoother updates and greater flexibility for developers.

Native Secp256r1 Signature Support: Enables passwordless, Web2-style security features like Passkeys and two-factor authentication, enhancing user experience and security.

These improvements aim to bolster Solana's scalability, developer experience, and user security, positioning the network for continued growth and adoption.
