Avalanche is the blockchain that focuses on scalability and fast finality.


Patrick O’Grady, the VP of Engineering at Ava Labs, the company that oversees the development of the Avalanche blockchain, announced on July 27, 2024, that he will be leaving Ava Labs.

 

He worked with Ava Labs for 3.5 years. He announced his departure to start his own company. He does not yet mention details of his new company.

 

O’Grady will remain involved with Ava Labs as a technical advisor.

 

Patrick O'Grady oversees the development and maintenance of key components of the Avalanche ecosystem, including the AvalancheGo client, Avalanche Bridge, and various APIs and tools like the Core Wallet and Avalanche Explorer.

 

Before joining Ava Labs, O'Grady worked at Coinbase, where he worked at the development of Rosetta, an open-source specification that Coinbase uses to integrate new blockchains.

 

His background also includes a strong focus on building scalable and secure blockchain infrastructure.

 

At Ava Labs, O'Grady has been instrumental in proposing and implementing upgrades such as the Astra upgrade, which aims to enhance the validation process for Avalanche subnets by introducing Subnet-Only Validators (SOVs)​​.

 

His work reflects a commitment to improving blockchain scalability and efficiency, which is evident in his contributions to various projects and his frequent participation in industry conferences and discussions.



 


He has been part of significant developments like the Vryx scaling solution, which aims to increase the transaction per second of the Avalanche blockchain to 100,000 transactions per second.
