August 14, 2024 - MetaMask has teamed up with Mastercard to introduce a pilot phase of the MetaMask debit card.

This new offering allows MetaMask wallet users to spend their cryptocurrency holdings wherever Mastercard is accepted, bringing cryptocurrencies to everyday transactions.

The MetaMask debit card is designed to enable direct purchases from users' self-custodial crypto wallets.

This represents a key step forward in expanding the utility of cryptocurrencies in the real world.

The card supports transactions using USDC, USDT, and WETH via the Linea network, making it possible to use these digital currencies for day-to-day purchases.

The current launch is a limited pilot, with only a few thousand digital-only cards available.

The pilot is restricted to users in the European Union and the United Kingdom, who can register for the card through MetaMask Portfolio.

Eligible users can add the card as a payment method on their mobile devices, further simplifying the process of spending crypto assets in physical and online stores.

MetaMask users interested in the card can check their eligibility by visiting the MetaMask Portfolio in a web browser and looking for the “Card” tab in the menu.

This collaboration between MetaMask and Mastercard signals a growing interest in making cryptocurrencies more accessible and functional for everyday use.

As the pilot progresses, it may pave the way for a broader rollout, potentially transforming how digital assets can be used outside the crypto economy.
